About this book The papers of this volume share as a common goal the structure and classi- fication of noncommutative rings and their modules, and deal with topics of current research including: localization, serial rings, perfect endomorphism rings, quantum groups, Morita contexts, generalizations of injectivitiy, and Cartan matrices. I taught this course in the Fall of , and more recently in the Spring of , both times focusing on the theory of noncommutative rings. This book is an outgrowth of my lectures in these two courses, and is intended for use by instructors and graduate students in a similar one-semester course in basic ring theory. Ring theory is a subject. The algebra of square matrices of size n ~ 2 over the field of complex numbers is, evidently, the best-known example of a non-commutative alge 1 bra • Subalgebras and subrings of this algebra (for example, the ring of n x n matrices with integral entries) arise naturally in many areas of mathemat. Since the natural source for rings are the endomorphisms of abelian groups, the natural represen-tation theory for a ring would be determined by its action as endomorphisms on some abelian group. Indeed, that is the approach that we take. Thus, let Rbe a ring, let Mbe an abelian group, and let ‚: R¡!End‘(M) be a ring homomorphism. , Lectures on Rings and Modules (for 2nd reading) in, Noncommutative Rings (most preferable for me, but without exercises) , ld, Introduction to Commutative Algebra (if you will study algebraic geometry in the future). In commutative ring theory, one generally deals once and for all either with left R-modules or right R-modules. In noncommutative ring theory the situation is dif-ferent: one regularly encounters modules of both types simultaneously. Moreover, if Rand Sare rings we File Size: KB. Introduction to Ring Theory Sachi Hashimoto Mathcamp Summer 1 Day 1 What are we talking about? Broadly speaking, a ring is a set of objects which we can do two things with: add and multiply. In many ways it will look like our familiar notions of addition and multiplication, but sometimes it won’ Size: KB.

Book description This beautiful book is the result of the author's wide and deep knowledge of the subject matter, combined with a gift for exposition The well selected material is offered in an integrated presentation of the structure theory of noncommutative (associative rings) and its applications. The book will appeal to many a reader.
